2010 News - this year watch for Steve at many Nova Scotia races and concerts, taking new photos and selling existing prints as well.  Watch this space for Steve's schedule; meanwhile visit the Gallery for new images...

Steve Shearer was born in New Brunswick, Canada but only stayed there a few hours, then it was back to the neighbouring province of Nova Scotia forever!  He has been into photography for 21 years, lured by travel, motorsport and bird watching.

Steve has had photos published in approximately 25 regional and national publications, and is currently a member of the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia.  Steve uses digital SLR cameras and prints on a high resolution inkjet.  Only photo-quality paper is used for his prints - exact print size is 7.8 inches by 11.7 inches, and all prints are signed by the photographer.

Here's what Steve has to say about his three favourite photographic subjects:

Landscape - landscape photography takes concentration. On a day when one is inspired, great landscapes are everywhere, on other days one can walk for hours and not click a shutter.

Wildlife - wildlife photography can be attained by luring animals to within camera range ie. at birdfeeders, or by travel destinations like wildlife sanctuaries, and also visiting zoos and wildlife parks.

Motorsport photography takes practice to perfect different techniques, such as head-on shots that fill the frame with a race car bearing down on one, or side on "panned" shots with slow shutter speeds that blur backgrounds and wheels to "show" motion.

Have you ever visited Nova Scotia, Canada?  Like many other "Bluenosers", Steve feels lucky to live in such a beautiful place, and the province provides year-round opportunities for spectacular photos.  Known as "Canada's Ocean Playground" the province is basically a huge peninsula jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean.  As you can see from this satellite image, it's almost all coastline, indeed, you are never more than 70 miles from the sea no matter where you go.  Heavily forested, with a variety of landforms, and the ever present sea, Nova Scotia offers stunning scenery and a wild grandeur.  Click on the image to see an enlargement; the magnifying glass in this photo is centered around Cape Blomidon, a ruggedly beautiful "hook" in the Bay of Fundy, home of the world's highest tides.  To learn more about our province we invite you to visit the official Nova Scotia Tourism site.

Enlargements of Steve's work have been created at 900 pixels to show you a great image - please allow loading time and note the "steve shearer photos" watermark is for copyright protection only & does NOT appear on your purchased print....

Art Gallery & Workshop Like many photographers, Steve first got interested in wildlife while watching the comings and goings at nearby bird feeders.  Always beautiful subjects, birds are also challenging ones, requiring skill and patience on the part of the photographer.
